Kicking off a couple of things here. Sonar & Off Sonar and everything in between is kicking off already. We threw the video up for the trailer 3 months agoand now it’s like a full blown up ting. For the official (and full) Sonar lineup, it’s over at the official siteand for y’all that are more into the chiiler (and cheap..er) kinda thing, RA’s got a whole Off Sonar guideto make it easy.
So in spirit of all that said, my Metro Boyz half threw me this video and said “…And this party got shut down”. It’s a Hotel Plaza Catalunya rooftop party hosted by the Culprit and Leftroom labels. Now we don’t usually do house. True. But we believe that Barcelona can convert you. The house bug caught up with us and now we wanna drank champagne, wear our flippy floppies to the pool parties, and just soak in the coastal vibes to a deep house beat.
In new discoveries and desires to expand into unkown territory, we begin a new feature entitled Deep n Dub, where we enter into the deepest parts of our cerebrums and try to a explore a genre extraño
SASHA GO HARD - PRETTY FLY
In similar fashion to JUNGLYPUSSY, this girl be keeping it her style, and it’s a damn cute one at that (plus she’s from Chicago). Sasha’s got load of videos all over the tube and it was hard to pick one, but the bouncey, almost bashment vibe on this one made it unresistable to me. Maybe it’s just a white guy with a beard ting (check that guy). COMPLEX interviews and unveils more. One of these folks gotta stick around longer than 5 minutes tho (yes Chief Keef, sad face to your debut). Sasha’s got mixtapes and tracks available via Pitchfork. I’m deep in this scene right now.
JUNGLEPUSSY - CREAM TEAM
So many have joined the Cream Team already that I feel quite old making this post (i.e. Unfashionably Late), yet it’s better late than never. I was sillyhappy when I saw this, got reminded of the blood that runs deep in me and the countless arguments about the “rap” scene I’ve had with my friends. This is raw, shows “respectful women” making money, stretching their vulva muscles, and making white boys like me keep dreaming (aka taking me back to my junglesex days)
Almighty Sion, also known as Bolts and SertOne come from a respected beatmaking background, now together, they are releasing an appropriately titled The Beat Generation record (on cassette and digital) via their label, Original Cultures.
That Morning Sun tune (the Eastern treat) had me locked on from first second. Peep the visual tease above (credit to Feel Good Lost) or head to the fuller Soundcloud Teaser to check out the chillness.
Big thanks to XLR8R for staying hip and turning me onto goodies I would never find in the chaotic interwebs.
JUST JAM IN CHICAGO
For real? I am always stoked and proud of Chicago when I see these videos. dontwatchthat is revamping and coming back with some juke footage. Shouldn’t be long. Stay tuned…
A friend of mine threw me onto Relevant BCN, an artist collective out of Barcelona that compiles, hosts, and supports some of the greatest artists all around the world. Thanks to them I was introduced to the Pillas Bros, a graphic design / graf crew based out of Madrid. It is run by Lucas from Madrid and Nicolas from San Fran. Get introduced to their wonderful work via the Relevant BCN Interview: Pillasbros and the video below.
the hype wore off for most of ya. i know that. but you’re not seeing or hearing hiphop that sounds like this anywher else, for suuure. the originality and excitement of this video makes me very happy and glad to know that i think Tyler is above his “expire hype” and deserves some genuine quality hiphop patches on his boxing robe…im saying tyler the creator is fucking great.

EP09 MELO-X “Dont Heza”
This took place back in July of 2011 at an event called “Live at the Loft”. Melo-X pulls a beautiful woman from the crowd and performs Don’t Heza (elbows included). The result is a magical and extremely sensual and musically erotic experience for all parties involved. Including us, the viewers.
Dip and Dub are strong supporters of Melo-X and his whole scene. Support the renaissance man at www.meloxtra.com
GLENVIEW 1973
I was searching for Glenview, Illinois footage but ran across a clip from the “Glenview house” in San Francisco circa 1973. No audio, but the dude’s beard speaks for itself. His beard is fit, but he knows it…pumping his fist in the air to show us how happy he is about it.
H∆SHTAG$: Series Trailer.
Red Bull is putting out a six parter documentary exploring none other than the “new age” music trends of the online world. Even though the topic is nothing of new discussion, the interview roster here looks impressive and I’d be quite interested to hear what Flying Lotus has to say on this ting.
Starts tomorrow. So get your twitters ready.
H∆SHTAG$ will be exclusively streaming each Wednesday onwww.redbullmusicacademy.com, beginning January 30 and running through early March.
in the days before i could ever make it inside a club. in the days when i decided to ride a bicycle to school everyday instead of my car to be environmental. in the days when i made cd mixtapes. this track was number 1 on the list and i would cycle to gym class every morning, getting advice from big pun. i feel it’s appropriate for a throwback well cuz i wasn’t a playa, and i am still not a playa. celebrations on a good classic.
Been really into the Speakeasy with Paul F. Tompkins on the Youtubes. The full episodes are about 20 minutes and feature a standup comic answering some real questions. Tompkins is a great host. Definitely needs his own CC show for this shit. In this one, one of my favorites, Aziz covers a variety of topics. Including his views on food, LA, New York, hiphop, and suits. I liked the suit part.
was thinking how great it’d be to see Chappelle on this. Itd be a great interview.
was watching an old SNL episode. ran into this awesome live Beck performance
