On top is an image from Andrew Kuykendall, who’s got this wonderful eye for low contrast retro imagery. This mag that mag, he recently did a VICE shoot of “sporty girls turning bad”, and having a sweet spot for 80’s styled athletics, I checked out the whole set here. Below is the song I was listening to while carefully “examining” the photos. From the unexpected sounds of El Michels Affaircomes what everyone is coining “cinematic soul”. Can It All Be So Simple comes from the Fat Beats’ “Enter the 37th Chamber” record, where El Michels tranforms the 93’ jeeps and land cruisers & good ol’ days sonnet into a retro instrumental sauce jam. A hand up for the oldies with the Wu-Tang throwback.
The name itself..”Mayer Hawthorne”…just says soul. And soul, in fact, very beautiful and delicate soul, is what comes out of this man. And all the djs wanted a piece of the pie. Remix eps do not usually sit well in the “subtlety” category of beautiful records. But every so often, the selection of remixes is so vast and the pickings are done by the artist themselves that you get a nice record of nice subtle “edits”. Songs that highlight the original beauty of the track and never mask nuttin’.
We played this tune at a housewarming party the other week and people turned their boogie on.
RBMA & Egon (from Now&Again, Stones Throw) put together a wonderful adventure tale for y’all. My description and hype is unnecessary here, as Egon goes into detail about his and Madlibs Russian tour, which inevitably led to a funky time. We love funky time, and we love our brothers & sisters in Russia, so this was a huge huge present for us.

This took place back in July of 2011 at an event called “Live at the Loft”. Melo-X pulls a beautiful woman from the crowd and performs Don’t Heza (elbows included). The result is a magical and extremely sensual and musically erotic experience for all parties involved. Including us, the viewers.
Dip and Dub are strong supporters of Melo-X and his whole scene. Support the renaissance man at www.meloxtra.com
